Pump.fun faces criticism for livestreams featuring dangerous behaviors, including self-harm and violent threats.
Users are allegedly broadcasting dangerous and violent behaviors through the livestream feature of Pump.fun, which is a decentralized website for creating memecoins based on the Solana cryptocurrency.
Pump.fun is a decentralized platform that enables users to generate memecoins operating on the Solana blockchain. Community services, including as livestreams, are another way for users to market their tokens via the platform.
Despite this, members of the cryptocurrency community have recently criticized the platform, demanding stricter moderation or the removal of the livestream option.
On November 25, X user Beau, who holds the position of safety project manager for Pudgy Penguins, identified a user who was participating in a Pump.fun livestream and threatened to take their own life if their coin did not reach a particular market capitalization.
Beau pleaded with Pump.fun to put an end to the webcast and offer assistance to the person who was experiencing difficulties. In addition, Beau demanded that they completely do away with its livestream option, stating that it is already “out of control.
Other unsettling claims suggest that users are making violent threats. The individual who fired a gun out of a window each time their coin went up was brought to the attention of a member of the community.
Another incident involved a child threatening to harm family members if a token failed to meet a price target, while another user reported a person threatening to shoot up a school if their memecoin failed to pump.
There are members of the community who have referred to the livestream aspect of the platform as a “pipeline of felonies.” A user of X urged Pump.fun to disable the feature until they implement more powerful moderating tools.
According to what they claimed, “turning on a camera to showcase your own depravity to the world is neither noble nor novel.”In response to the criticism, Alon, the pseudonymous leader of Pump.fun, recognized the worries of the community while defending the efforts of the platform to moderate content.
Alon asserted that the Pump.fun crew is responsible for moderating the comments, livestreams, pictures, and videos posted on the Pump.fun website. Alon claimed that moderation has been a focus ever since the site was established, and he reassured users that the staff is actively working to address information that is considered illegal.
Despite the fact that Pump.fun asserts that it is regulating inappropriate content, the community has demanded increased transparency and urgent action to avoid damaging broadcasts. Furthermore, the company has not yet addressed the question of whether Facebook will incorporate extra protections or improvements to its livestream feature.
