RLUSD Loans on Ethereum, XRP Holders Can Now Tap $280M

Flare, the blockchain network that connects XRP to decentralized finance, announced on Monday, August 3, that its wrapped XRP token, FXRP, has been approved as collateral in Sentora's RLUSD Main vault on Ethereum. The approval opened a new isolated FXRP/RLUSD lending market on the Morpho Blue protocol, marking the first time an XRP-linked asset has entered an institutionally curated Ethereum lending vault. The vault holds close to $280 million in deposited RLUSD, making it the largest institutionally managed RLUSD pool on the network, and lets XRP holders access dollar liquidity without selling their tokens.

Why XRP's Entry Into the RLUSD Vault Is Significant

Sentora said it evaluated FXRP's market behavior, oracle design, liquidity, and liquidation capacity under its institutional risk framework before signing off. Jesus Rodriguez, Sentora's co-founder and CTO-CPO, said XRP's scale makes it well-suited for on-chain credit markets and helps turn the asset into a more productive holding beyond its traditional role in payments and cross-border transfers. The market is permissionless, with no whitelist required to participate.

How XRP Holders Borrow RLUSD Without Selling

The process runs in steps: users mint FXRP through Flare's FAssets system, bridge the token to Ethereum via Stargate, deposit it into the Morpho Blue market, and borrow RLUSD against it at a chosen loan-to-value ratio. Interest rates shift based on utilization, and positions are liquidated if collateral value drops too far. Flare says it is developing Smart Account tools to eventually let users complete the entire flow from an XRP Ledger wallet.

What the $280M Vault Means for XRP's Role in DeFi

The setup echoes the model used by Wrapped Bitcoin, letting holders retain price exposure while unlocking liquidity. The market opens with conservative limits that could expand as adoption grows.

The integration extends XRP's utility past payments, potentially pulling more XRP-linked liquidity into Ethereum's lending ecosystem.

Simplified onboarding through Flare's planned Smart Accounts could accelerate FXRP-backed borrowing as the multi-step process becomes more streamlined.

Analysts point to Ripple's and Flare's roles as strategic investors in Sentora as a sign that institutionally curated DeFi credit markets are maturing around major stablecoins like RLUSD.
