Crypto.com and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have partnered to launch a television commercial during the 94th Academy Awards about the crisis in Ukraine and also receive donations towards the cause.
Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek announced on Wednesday that the exchange had partnered with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to launch a campaign to aid those suffering in Ukraine’s war-torn conditions.
The platform already allows donations in crypto, fiat, and nonfungible token purchases to the humanitarian network Red Cross Red Crescent, but the CEO did not specify what the campaign would entail. Until March 31, the exchange will match up to $1 million in donations.
“The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is worsening, and I believe it is our responsibility to help those who are suffering,” Marszalek said. “Throughout this tragedy, the entire cryptocurrency community has come together to demonstrate who we are, our values, and the significance of what we’re building to the rest of the world.”
According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, more than 3.6 million people had fled Ukraine as of March 24, a month after Russian military forces invaded the country.
According to reports from Ukraine, millions of people are facing food and water shortages, a lack of medical care due to the damage or destruction of many hospitals, and displacement after being forced to flee the country’s eastern regions.
Many private businesses are facilitating digital asset donations, such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), to aid Ukrainians.
In addition to accepting crypto donations directly through wallet addresses provided by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Ukraine’s government launched a donation website on March 14 in collaboration with exchanges FTX and Kuna, as well as staking platform Everstake.
As of March 9, many charities, relief organizations, and government wallets had received approximately $108 million in cryptocurrency to aid Ukraine.
