Thodex founder, Faruk Fatih Ozer went missing in 2021, taking money from 400,000 users with him.
According to a statement from the Turkish Interior Ministry on Tuesday, the founder of one of Turkey’s biggest cryptocurrency exchanges, Thodex, which turned out to be an exit scam, has been arrested in Albania.
Last year, Faruk Fatih Ozer’s exchange suddenly stopped working, and the exchange’s founder and CEO ran away to Albania, leaving almost 400,000 members in the dark and unable to access their money. The oldest newspaper in Turkey, Cumhuriyet, wrote on Tuesday that users had put $2 billion worth of cryptocurrencies into the exchange.
Albania’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Bledar UCI, told his Turkish counterpart that Ozer had been arrested in Vlora and that biometric results had confirmed his identity. His extradition is already underway.
