People who want to withdraw cryptocurrency to purchase groceries will soon be able to do so in many H-E-B supermarkets in Texas.
In line with a report from the Houston Chronicle on Friday, crypto ATM company Coin Cloud is preparing to install machines at 29 H-E-B locations in the Houston area.
Automated Teller machines (ATMs) will allow users to buy and sell more than 30 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Litecoin (LTC), certain DeFi tokens and stablecoins linked to the U.S. dollar.
Chris McAlary, CEO and founder of Coin Cloud, stated that he hopes that “retailers will become more aware of the important role that digital currencies will play in the future.”
According to reports, the encrypted ATM company will install its 2,000th machine in the H-E-B store, allowing customers to use cash, debit and credit cards for encrypted transactions.
Given the state’s weak regulation of renewable energy and grids, Texas is also becoming a hot spot for crypto mining companies.
Meanwhile, Blockcap reported that it will set up an office in Austin, and Riot Blockchain said it plans to procure a data installation east of the state capital for 650 million US Dollars.
Established in 1905, H-E-B is one of the oldest food chains in Texas, with 400 stores throughout the state and in Mexico.
In addition, H-E-B is ranked 13th in Progressive Grocer’s 2021 list of the top food and consumer goods retailers in North America, and many residents appreciate its food donations after major disasters such as the Great Winter Storm earlier this year.
