Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) was held in the sick bay where he reportedly had access to running water, a toilet, a TV and vegan food.
Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former CEO of FTX, who was sent to the notorious Fox Hill Prison in Nassau, Bahamas while an investigation into the demise of his exchange was ongoing, had a unique experience compared to many other inmates.
In the sickbay, where he had access to a bathroom, running water, a TV, regional newspapers, crossword puzzles, and many other benefits, including vegan food, according to Bloomberg, Bankman-Fried was detained.
The former CEO was revealed to have spent his days reading about himself and watching the news by unnamed jail personnel. SBF’s experience in prison appears to have been considerably different from what many other inmates go through in their rat-infested, overcrowded, poorly ventilated prison cells where they are made to sleep on the floor using homemade cards.
The former CEO, unlike other Fox Hill inmates, slept in a cot in the sick ward, which was only home to four other guys. According to a human rights report issued by the U.S. State Department in 2021, the circumstances at Fox Hill were “harsh,” as inmates were overcrowded, underfed, and lacked proper sanitation and medical care.
Additionally, physical assault by correctional guards was claimed in the report. According to the article, “maximum-security cells for men sized roughly six by ten feet and contained up to six people without mattresses or restrooms.” It included the following conditions as well:
“Inmates removed human waste by bucket. Prisoners complained of the lack of beds and bedding. Some inmates developed bedsores from lying on bare ground. Sanitation was a general problem, and cells were infested with rats, maggots, and insects.”
SBF jail was getting ready to be extradited to the United States, according to an article in December. Bankman-Fried was due to leave the Bahamas for the United States on the evening of December 22, according to a statement from the Attorney General of the Bahamas, Ryan Pinder.
