The government of Argentina collaborates with El Salvador to gain insights from its experience adopting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency-related activities.
CNV announced that the National Securities Commission (CNV), the securities regulator of Argentina, and the National Commission of Digital Assets (CNAD), the regulator of El Salvador, met to discuss the adoption and regulation of cryptocurrencies in both nations.
During the May 23 meeting, CNV Vice President Patricia Boedo, CNAD President Juan Carlos Reyes, and CNV President Roberto Silva discussed El Salvador’s experience as the first nation to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021 officially.
The officials discussed strategies and concepts for using cryptocurrencies in global economies, emphasizing the Bitcoin instance in El Salvador.
According to CNV president Silva, El Salvador has not only become a global leader in Bitcoin adoption but has also distinguished itself in the cryptocurrency industry as a whole.
The speaker emphasized the significance of industry insights uncovered by CNAD, the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the digital asset sector in El Salvador. Silva declared:
“We want to strengthen ties with the Republic of El Salvador, and therefore, we are going to explore the possibility of signing collaboration agreements with them.”
During his March visit to El Salvador for market development meetings, CNV Vice President Boedo emphasized the importance of El Salvador’s expertise in cryptocurrency.
“The National Securities Commission recognizes that Argentina is a technological pioneer and desires to collaborate effectively with the industry to develop appropriate regulations,” said Reyes, an official from El Salvador.
The announcement coincides with Argentina’s April passage of registration requirements for cryptocurrency firms and its progress toward regulating the local cryptocurrency market.
Since Bitcoin proponent and Argentine president, Javier Milei assumed office in late 2023, the nation has been actively transitioning to cryptocurrencies.
Diana Mondino, the Argentine minister of foreign affairs, stated at the end of 2023 that a decree was being drafted to legalize using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for payments within the country, subject to certain conditions.
