Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, will meet with top tech CEOs in the US to discuss advancing business in Argentina.
As part of his tour of the United States, Argentine President Javier Milei will privately meet several prominent figures, including leading technology CEOs, in Silicon Valley, California. Press reports indicate he will utilize the occasions to advance business relations with Argentina.
Milei discussed “the enormous possibilities offered by a libertarian Argentina” with Worldcoin and OpenAI founder Sam Altman during their hour-long meeting on May 28.
Alex Blania, the chief developer of the Worldcoin project and co-founder and CEO of Tools for Humanity, attended the meeting. The males were Milei’s second in attendance. In the summer of 2023, Worldcoin was operational in Argentina; however, it encountered political resistance.
Milei’s roster includes Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, and Tim Cook of Apple. Milei will also speak at the Pacific Summit and interact with a group of start-up and AI entrepreneurs.
This is Milei’s fourth visit to the United States since his term began following a runoff election on December 10. An elite group of the nation’s officials accompanies him.
Milei will encounter former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, among other notable individuals. On May 28, Milei spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Reportedly, Milei and Trudeau discussed the situation in Gaza.
Argentina, a nation grappling with economic difficulties, would greatly benefit from investments in high technology. Despite a relatively brief reduction in inflation in Argentina from 133% to 50% during his tenure, Milei continues to sow discord at home. It enhances his reputation that he frequently convenes with company executives.
Milei campaigned on the platform of cryptocurrency advocacy and pledged to disband the nation’s central bank. With the failure of numerous pledges, he has let down a significant portion of his electorate and dashed their aspirations.
Despite this, on May 23, regulators from El Salvador and Argentina convened to discuss El Salvador’s experience with Bitcoin as legal tender. Milei will depart the United States on May 31 to attend the inauguration of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele for a second term.
