Donald Trump’s crypto portfolio surged to nearly $26 million after a new memecoin airdrop doubled his holdings to over $20 million, according to Arkham.
The recent airdrop of a new memecoin has been the primary factor contributing to the significant increase in the crypto portfolio of former US President Donald Trump, which has now reached nearly $26 million.
Arkham, a crypto intelligence platform, disclosed via X that Donald Trump’s memecoin holdings had doubled to more than $20 million, underscoring this significant increase.
A few days ago, the developer team of Donald Trump airdropped half of the TROG supply. It has been priced on Arkham at a market value exceeding $12 million.
TROG incorporates themes from Trump’s political branding, while also capitalizing on the ongoing prevalence of frog-themed memecoins such as PEPE. The creators of TROG characterize it as a combination of financial strategy and meme culture, to capture the investment potential and humor of the crypto market.
The official TROG website jokingly states, “Welcome to the wacky, wild world of Trog (Trump Frog) – the meme coin that’s here to make crypto great again!” Trog, which was born from the legendary internet culture and inspired by the one and only Donald Trump, combines the revolutionary spirit of cryptocurrency with the absurdity of memes.
Trump’s holdings in this memecoin have increased to over $14 million as of press time, as the value of TROG has continued to rise. With this considerable increase, Trump’s total cryptocurrency fortune has reached an impressive $25.97 million.
TROG ($14.05 million), TRUMP ($7.55 million), Ethereum ($1.79 million), and Wrapped Ethereum ($1.42 million) are currently his top-four holdings.
Although the initial two assets in Donald Trump’s portfolio are airdropped memecoins, his ETH and WETH holdings are the result of his personal NFT collection. The proceeds from these transactions were transferred to his wallet.
The origin of TROG can be traced back to the internet meme culture, specifically a Photoshop meme that depicts Donald Trump with a green frog painted over his mouth and jawline. In May 2017, artist Mike Mitchell tweeted numerous altered photographs of Trump, which sparked the notoriety of this meme. The original tweet garnered over 31,600 likes and 14,300 retweets within a week.
The meme was rapidly disseminated, with more altered images being shared extensively on social media platforms and being covered by news outlets such as Mashable, The Daily Dot, and Bored Panda.
The tokenomics of TROG indicate that Trump possesses precisely 50% of the total supply, which equates to 210.34 billion TROG tokens. Approximately $450,000 is the value of the second-largest holder’s 7.23 billion TROG, which represents 1.62% of the supply.
The fact that the top 10 holders control 66.72% of the total supply further emphasizes the concentration of ownership.
The developers’ calculated action to leverage Trump’s public profile and influence is evident in the strategic airdrop of TROG to his wallet, which comprises half of the total supply.
Nevertheless, the practical implications of liquidating such a substantial quantity of TROG at market value are uncertain, despite the substantial nominal value of these holdings. Arkham observed that “it is exceedingly unlikely that Trump would be able to sell it at market value, even if he were aware of its existence,” given the sheer volume of the supply.
The Trump memecoin (MAGA) was trading at $13.06 at the time of publication.
