Aptos will be able to support confidential DeFi, private AI assistants and more.
Aptos is partnering with Nillion, a privacy platform, to enable privacy-preserving applications on its layer-1 blockchain network, as reported by Cointelegraph on August 29.
This integration will allow Aptos to support a variety of applications, including confidential decentralized finance (DeFi), private artificial intelligence (AI) assistants, secure social media, private gaming, collectibles, and more, according to Nillion.
Nillion highlighted that “DeFi users could benefit from private trade execution or hidden liquidation vaults, while supply chains could enhance transparency without compromising sensitive data.”
Established in 2021, Nillion is described as a “blind computation” platform that employs technologies like multiparty computation (MPC) and fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) to “decentralize trust for sensitive data in the same way that blockchains decentralized transactions,” as detailed on Nillion’s website.
The company also stated that “Nillion’s blind computation technology could ensure that user interactions with Aptos-customized AI models remain completely private.”
This integration comes amidst concerns over privacy-focused technologies following the arrest of Pavel Durov, co-founder and CEO of Telegram, in France, which has raised fears of a potential crackdown on these technologies that are often crucial for cryptocurrency operations.
Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin expressed his concern about the arrest on August 25, stating on the X platform that it “looks very bad and worrying for the future of software and comms freedom in Europe.”
Launched by Aptos Labs in 2022, the Aptos network currently has about $425 million in total value locked (TVL), according to DefiLlama data.
The company has secured over $400 million in investments from firms such as a16z, Apollo Global, Franklin Templeton, Dragonfly, PayPal Ventures, and Coinbase Ventures.
On August 20, Nillion announced its integration with Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling network, Arbitrum. Aptos marks Nillion’s first integration with a blockchain network not based on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
Commenting on the partnership, Alex Page, CEO and co-founder of Nillion, stated that the integration with Aptos will “give developers the tools to unlock a whole new design space for DApps that can incorporate and handle highly sensitive data,” as noted in a statement to Cointelegraph.
