At Korea Blockchain Week 2024, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggested AI and prediction markets could accelerate the creation of community notes on X, which help provide context to misleading posts.
Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, expressed his conviction that the production of community notes on the social media platform X can be expedited through the use of artificial intelligence and prediction market technology at the Korea Blockchain Week 2024.
Community remarks are a feature of X that allows the community to provide context to posts that may be misleading. If a sufficient number of contributors assess a note as helpful, it will be publicly displayed beneath a post. Contributors are permitted to leave “notes” on posts.
Although these notes are beneficial, Buterin asserted that the most significant criticism of community notes is that they “do not appear promptly enough.” This suggests that erroneous posts made before the notes’ release might have misled some people.
Prediction markets have the potential to expedite the development of other mechanisms
Buterin further stated that the delay required to provide context on posts through community notes is “excessive.” Nevertheless, the co-founder of Ethereum contended that the solution could be discovered in prediction markets.
Prediction markets are public markets that enable users to wager on specific outcomes. Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, was one of the examples provided by Buterin. This platform allows users to wager on topics that are widely debated, such as politics, sports, and cryptocurrency. Buterin stated:
“One way to think about prediction markets is as a building block that can make other mechanisms faster. […] You take some existing mechanism, and then you make something much faster that gets incentivized to do as good a job as possible.”
He stated that there may be a query posed to determine whether a post is worthy of a community note whenever it is posted. Buterin stated that individuals could utilize algorithms and large AI language models (LLMs) to place small bets on this prediction market.
Buterin is of the opinion that this has the potential to expedite the process of obtaining the truth and to motivate the mechanism for the participants.
“This mechanism will place the note at the conclusion and subsequently reward individuals who accurately predicted the outcome.” Would you agree? Therefore, in this location, you essentially possess a vector that is both cost-effective and rapid.
