Abu Dhabi bans cryptocurrency mining on farms, imposing fines up to $2,722, while the UAE remains a supportive region for Bitcoin mining.
A new recommendation from the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority in the United Arab Emirates forbids using farms to mine cryptocurrencies. Farmers cannot be used for cryptocurrency mining, as the advice clearly states.
According to officials, this is a “misuse of the farm for purposes other than its intended use.” Farmers who are found to be involved in these operations risk fines of up to $2,722 (10,000 dirhams in the UAE).
The United Arab Emirates has established itself as a country that supports Bitcoin mining, even despite this particular limitation. According to data from 2023, the United Arab Emirates was responsible for 400 megawatts of Bitcoin mining capacity, or 4% of the world’s hash rate.
