Amazon announced a new position on thursday, criteria for the job requires a deep understanding of blockchain, digital currency and cryptocurrency ecosystems.
With a new big hire within its payments-focused division, tech giant Amazon is looking to get into digital currency and blockchain development.
The payments acceptance and experience team at Amazon is looking for a digital currency and blockchain product lead to help define the company’s digital currency and blockchain strategy as well as a product roadmap.
Customers’ payments on Amazon’s sites and through its global services are handled by this team.
The new position, which was announced on Thursday, calls for an experienced product leader with experience in blockchain, central bank digital currencies, and cryptocurrencies to “develop the case for the capabilities that should be developed” and to drive overall product vision.
According to the posting notes, the new Amazon digital currency head will collaborate closely with teams throughout Amazon to build the roadmap, which will include the customer experience, technological strategy, and capabilities.
The application calls for a series of industry credentials, including a “deep understanding” of the digital currency and cryptocurrency ecosystems, as well as related technology.
It’s unclear whether Amazon plans to introduce its own digital currency as part of the new position’s payment acceptance process. The company did not immediately react to a request for comment from Cointelegraph.
The recent job offering reinforces Amazon’s growing interest in digital currency since the corporation is rumoured to be working on a new service that will allow customers to shop with digital money.
Amazon advertised a job opening for a new digital payment product called “Digital and Emerging Payments” earlier this year, with the intention of launching the program in Mexico first.
