Steven Goldfeder, one of the people who started Arbitrum, has said that a zkEVM is “not 12 days away from mainnet.”
The co-founder of OffChain Labs, the company behind the layer-2 scaling solution Arbitrum, has spoken out against companies that are marketing the launch of products built on an upcoming zkEVM.
zkEVMs are a type of zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup that involves moving smart contracts from one blockchain to another without changing the rules or code.
Several companies have said that a zkEVM will be ready on mainnet before the end of the month. But Steven Goldfeder, one of the co-founders of OffChain Labs, said that this isn’t true.
Goldfeder wrote on Twitter, “We are NOT 12 days away from the first zkEVM on mainnet in any meaningful way.” “Anyone who spreads this story is doing the community a disservice.”
“Many teams are making steady progress, but we are by no means ready for prime time,” he said. “One team says that “the first product-ready Layer 2 EVM compatible zkRollup will be ready in 12 days.” If you read the fine print, though, you’ll see that their testnet still doesn’t have zk-proofs or security audits turned on.”
Offchain Labs just bought Prysmatic Labs, which was one of the main engineering teams that helped Ethereum switch to proof-of-stake.
