Visitors to Budapest’s Graphisoft Park may now see a bronze statue of famed Bitcoin developer Satoshi Nakamoto. The statue is to encourage people to keep on dreaming big.
András Gyrfi, the co-founder of the statue project and editor of crypto news site Kripto Akademia, addressed a crowd of journalists and Hungarian locals on Thursday before unveiling Satoshi’s dazzling visage. The sculpture depicts the upper half of a humanoid wearing a sweatshirt with the Bitcoin (BTC) emblem and a featureless face.

“Whoever he or she was, Bitcoin creates value, and particularly the technology that underpins Bitcoin, blockchain,” Gyrfi remarked.
At the ceremony, Debreczeni Barnabás, CEO of Hungarian crypto exchange Shinrai, also spoke, saying:
“Satoshi Nakamoto has created an independent money free of any middlemen that empowered people with financial sovereignty […] We have erected this statue to remind ourselves courage is a virtue. We need to keep on dreaming big.”
The statue, which was first shown in May and was sculpted by sculptors Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly, was purposefully made with a mirrored visage, implying to viewers that “we are all Satoshi.”
The “Statue of Satoshi” project has received support from Mr. Coin, Kripto Akademia, the Blockchain Hungary Association, and Blockchain Budapest.
Satoshi’s portrait will be displayed in the park among statues of Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, and other significant figures.
Despite years of conjecture regarding Satoshi’s identity and appearance, no one has been able to positively identify the Bitcoin founder.
