Coinbase has teamed up with Berlin International Gaming (BIG), a German e-sports group, to bring the worlds of gaming and cryptocurrency closer together.
According to an official press release, the relationship will also include community events and digital activations.
Coinbase’s collaboration with BIG comes after the exchange made significant regulatory progress in Germany. The German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority granted the German arm of Coinbase a crypto custody and trading license in June, making it the first of its kind in the country.
According to Coinbase, Germany is the only EU country that has implemented a full regulatory framework for bitcoin platforms.
According to Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG, the e-sports alliance intends to raise crypto awareness across the country.
“The world of cryptocurrencies is an extremely exciting environment, and it is my aim, through our partnership, to make more people aware of this rapidly growing ecosystem, with all its opportunities and risks. Coinbase has grown to be a market leader in recent years, providing customers with a safe and regulated place to trade and store cryptocurrencies securely.”
Coinbase and sports organizations.
Coinbase isn’t a newcomer to the gaming industry. BLAST Premier, a Counter-Strike e-sports league, announced in April that the exchange would sponsor the league’s spring season. Evil Geniuses, a Seattle-based e-sports team, also revealed a Coinbase sponsorship the same month.
Coinbase was named the “Official Crypto Exchange Partner” for ESL Gaming, the world’s leading e-sports corporation, at events in July.
