The Ukrainian government has added Dogecoin to its list of accepted cryptocurrencies for donations today following BTC, ETH, DOT, and VET amongst others.
According to Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine is officially taking Dogecoin donations. Fedorov tweeted, “Now even meme can support our army and rescue lives from Russian invaders.”
This is the Ukrainian government’s latest cryptocurrency-related initiative to raise revenue in the wake of Russia’s invasion.
Cryptocurrency donations in Ukraine amid the invasion
When Ukraine’s official Twitter account declared last week that it was now “accepting cryptocurrency donations,” it supplied Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses. Ukraine has raised almost $20 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum combined, according to blockchain records.
Polkadot donations are also being accepted in the country. “The people of Ukraine are grateful for the support and donations from the worldwide crypto community as we safeguard our freedom,” the government tweeted just one day ago.
In addition, an airdrop has been scheduled for March 3, 2022, at 6 p.m. Kyiv time.
The government has raised more than $35 million in multiple cryptocurrencies, according to blockchain analytics firm Elliptic.
