Australian Blockchain Week will include over 200 speakers over 75 events, including FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. FTX is a Bahamian-based bitcoin derivatives exchange that was founded in May 2019. According to Coinranking, it had a 24-hour trading volume of $1.41 billion at the time of writing.
The hiring, according to Steve Vallas, Chief Executive Officer of Blockchain Australia, comes at a “watershed moment” in the Australian blockchain ecosystem’s mainstreaming.
“Growing interest in blockchain technology from major financial institutions together with signs of increasing regulation for the industry mean this year’s event is being held at a critical time for all players in this market.”
The agreement, according to Bankman-Fried, is the first step in supporting the “long-term expansion of the Australian market.”
“We look forward to contributing to discussions to advance the local industry, better safeguard and protect consumers, and enabling financial institutions to evolve and thrive in the crypto industry.”
The businessman’s speech at the Asian Financial Forum on Jan. 11, in which he called on authorities to develop a unified framework for digital assets, will coincide with Australian Blockchain Week.
