Lionel Messi’s non-fungible token (NFT) collection also known as ‘Messiverse’ is getting ready to launch and will go on sale on August 21. The collection will be hosted solely on the NFT platform Ethernity Chain.
The Messiverse will include NFTs such as “The Golden One,” “The Man From Tomorrow,” and “The King Piece,” according to an official Ethernity post.
According to reports, the 34-year-old player will be depicted as a monarch, a Greek Titan, and a superhero, among other things.
On August 21, Ethernity also unveiled a “secret” NFT on their official Twitter account. The artwork was characterized as “The legend himself, forever sculpted on the blockchain” in the tweet.
This concealed NFT was produced by London-based digital artist Impossible Brief, while the other pieces in the collection were created by Australian BossLogic.
BossLogic has previously cooperated with Disney and Marvel, as well as Ethernity on their pre-release NFT collection.
Messiverse’s premiere coincides with a major shift in the subject’s trajectory. On August 10, Lionel Messi announced his departure from Barcelona, where he had been a member since he was a teenager in 2000, and joined French club Paris Saint-Germain.
The club’s fan token, PSG, witnessed a huge price increase as a result of the news of his probable signing. In just four days, the value of the token increased by 100%.
Paris Saint-Germain also gave a huge quantity of PSG tokens to their new player. According to reports, these tokens were part of Messi’s €25-30 million (about $29-35 million) welcoming package.
Football and NFTs
The crypto world has found its way into football in more ways than one. Fan tokens are just one example. NFTs have become popular in football, as they have in many other sports and entertainment fields, with the Messiverse collection being the most recent example.
So far this year, legends like Pelé have joined the NFT train. He released his digital trading card collection, also in conjunction with Ethernity, at the beginning of May.
Pelé’s fellow Brazilian Ronaldinho recently unveiled his own NFT collection in partnership with the creative company INFLUXO. On INFLUXO’s integrated marketplace, seven unique NFTs will be auctioned. Additionally, the victors will have the opportunity to meet Ronaldinho in Dubai in 2022.
