Global Microsoft Windows failure linked to a CrowdStrike software update has stopped critical services worldwide, causing bank outages and grounding flights.
Microsoft, a major technology company, is currently experiencing a global Windows system malfunction that has caused significant disruptions to various critical services, such as emergency services, banks, airports, and broadcasters.
According to a Forbes report, the cybersecurity software of CrowdStrike appears to be the cause of the failure, which commenced in the late hours of July 18 and persisted into the following day. It has resulted in numerous institutions facing tough operational challenges.
On July 18 at 11:41 pm UTC, Microsoft 365 Status announced that it was investigating an issue “affecting the ability of users to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services” in a post on X.
Microsoft’s most recent update, which was issued at 7:55 am UTC, indicated that the availability of numerous services is “continuing to improve” as the company continues to address the issue.
Banking sector was severely affected
This Windows failure has had a particularly severe impact on the finance sector. Online banking services have been notably impacted, with customers worldwide reporting difficulties logging in and conducting transactions.
A considerable increase in reports of disrupted banking services has been observed on Downdetector, a website that monitors service outages.
This morning, two significant institutions in the United Kingdom could not be accessed. The inability of customers to access their accounts resulted in a pervasive sense of anxiety and frustration.
The reports of comparable issues in institutions in the United States, Australia, and India underscore the global nature of this disruption.
