The launch of the public zkEVM testnet is for Hermez, which was purchased by Polygon for $250 million last year.
The public zkEVM testnet from Polygon has been made available, allowing developers to test the creation of privacy-enhancing zk-rollups in their individual decentralized applications.
The Competition for Ethereum Layer-2 Solutions
Hermes, a new Ethereum scaling solution from Polygon, has launched its first public testnet as the search for the best Ethereum Layer-2 solution gets underway. Hermez, an Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution, was purchased by Polygon for $250 million last year. The scalability of the scaling solution, which is based on Ethereum, is greatly increased, allowing it to handle significantly more transactions for a significantly lower charge.
Developers can now test the new network for the first time with the launch of the Hermez public testnet. Hermez, a component of the zkEVMs scaling solution, has advantages in terms of security and applications that few other scaling systems do. Zk-rollups, which bundle a number of transactions and offer them to the blockchain in a single transaction, have the potential to improve significantly the Ethereum network.
Advantages Of ZkEVMs
Using Solidity, which is regarded as the industry’s standard coding language, developers may now design zero-knowledge applications thanks to ZkEVMs, which dramatically improve Layer-2s. This enables developers to take use of ZK’s security and scaling advantages without having to learn a new programming language. Mihailo Bjelic, a co-founder of Polygon, described zkEVM as a revolutionary development and said,
“It was widely believed that zkEVM will take several more years to ship, which makes this an even more groundbreaking milestone, not only for Polygon but for the whole Web3 industry.”
Significant DeFi Protocols Already Implemented
Aave and Uniswap, two of the largest DeFi platforms, have already stated that they will launch on the testnet. Web 3.0 social network Lens and renowned gaming company Midnight Society are two more platforms that are anxious to be deployed on the new testnet. The implementation of these protocols enables the developer teams of Aave and Uniswap to test for any potential flaws while also allowing them and their users to experiment on Hermez.
David Schwartz, a co-founder of Polygon Hermez, described Polygon zkEVM as the next stage in Ethereum’s development and said,
“Ultimately, Polygon zkEVM is the next step in Ethereum’s journey, and we are moving towards giving our users the full benefits of a working zkEVM — scalability without compromise. We have some work to do before we fully achieve those goals, and we’re eager to find out exactly what needs improvement and receive feedback.”
Additionally, Polygon co-founder Bjelic urged programmers to use the brand-new testnet, which would aid the Polygon team in exploring its limitations, finding problems, and delivering the first-ever zkEVM.
