Romania has become the first European country to launch an institutional platform for trading digital assets, such as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).
The ICI D|SERVICES platform was built by the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) and operated on the Romanian-designed MultiversX blockchain network.
The platform aims to promote digital art and culture, innovation, and development in blockchain and Web3 technologies.
High-ranking government officials attended the launch event from Romania, including Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digitization; Florin Spătaru, Minister of Economy; and Mihai Diaconu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
They praised the initiative as a historic milestone and a demonstration of Romania’s commitment to the future of digital assets.
Adrian-Victor Vevera, ICI Bucharest’s director, said the platform was a joint effort of public, commercial, academic, cultural, and civil sectors.
He added that the platform was only the beginning and would continue collaborating to foster an atmosphere conducive to democracy and growth.
Currently, the platform hosts six collections of NFTs that honor Romanian achievements in many fields. “ICONS of the Generational Circle”—David Popovici; “The Generational Circle” — Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee; “Memories of Future Self”— AGERPRES; “A World in a Stamp”—Romfilatelia; “Our A.I. Story – Central University Library Reimagined”—”Carol I” Central University Library; “Past | Present, and Future”—ICI Bucharest
