The US government established an AI Safety and Security Board to monitor advancements in AI. Sam Altman, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, and Jensen Huang were invited to join the board.
As what seems to be an unexpected development, the Federal government has extended invitations to CEOs of leading companies specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to serve on its AI safety board.
The United States government invited OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai, and Nvidia’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang to join the Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board after its formation of an advisory board tasked with stifling the unfolding AI ecosystem.Â
The group must collaborate with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security upon acceptance. They must ensure the secure operation of artificial intelligence and its myriad of tools. These U.S. technology titans are tasked with advising on implementing AI in critical infrastructure.
Consequently, they would be required to consistently furnish the Department of Homeland Security with suggestions for protecting the nation and its citizens against AI-driven assaults, with a specific focus on power-grid operators, transportation, and manufacturing sectors.Â
Kathy Warden of Northrop Grumman and Ed Bastian of Delta, the governor of Maryland and the mayor of Seattle, are also members of the group. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will preside over the AI bloc. The group’s initial meeting is slated to take place in May, followed by quarterly meetings after that.
Including AI firm executives such as Altman, Nadella, and others on this board could facilitate the government’s intended revolution of the AI ecosystem.
President Joe Biden’s executive order, dated October 2023, prompted the formation of this AI Advisory group, a noteworthy development. The document outlined guidelines for the ethical, security, and safe utilization of artificial intelligence in government.
The executive order requires developers of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems to provide the government with critical data and results of safety tests.Â
A considerable proportion of individuals concur that introducing AI technology has positive implications for numerous sectors, including finance and healthcare. Nevertheless, it is full of hazards and deficiencies.
In recent years, many instances have involved celebrities and other prominent individuals misusing Al tools. At various points, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and American pop icon Taylor Swift experienced online embarrassment due to the implementation of AI tools. For some time, explicit photographs of the musician were observed disseminating on the internet.
Garlinghouse’s cloned version made false assurances to XRP holders regarding a giveaway and a scheme in which their assets would be doubled if they transmitted them to the sham hacker. These events emphasize the necessity for stringent regulation of AI technology.Â
