Meta applies for a trademark to Bitcoin and crypto services in Brazil

Despite regulatory challenges encountered during its multiple past attempts to enter the crypto field, Meta was recently renamed from Facebook in order to better match with Metaverse initiatives .

Meta accelerated this endeavour by registering a trademark for crypto products and services linked to trading, wallets, and exchange platforms with the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).

Further inquiry by Cointelegraph uncovered a translated version of the specs for Meta's trademarked products and services, as shown below:

The translated version of Meta's Products and Services description

“Design, development and implementation of software for third-party verification services for digital currency transactions, including (but not limited to) transactions involving Bitcoin currency.”

Meta filed their registration application on January 25 and is currently awaiting opposition and INPI approval. Meta's trademark filing order was placed on Oct. 5, 2021, from Jamaica, according to the document.
