Ethereum layer-2 network Base\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a> recently achieved a record-breaking 106.26 transactions per second (TPS), surpassing Taiko as the quickest Ethereum layer-2 solution. Additionally, its total value locked (TVL) has recently surpassed $10 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It represents a nearly 28% increase in TPS since November 23. According to Jesse Pollak, the founder of Base, the company's average transaction per second (TPS) was only 4 in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TVL has also increased to $10.68 billion, surpassing the $10 billion mark on November 15, according to L2BEAT data. This achievement places it as the second most considerable Ethereum layer 2 in TVL, trailing only Arbitrum One<\/a> at $18.3 billion, which surpassed OP Mainnet for second place in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to L2BEAT, a total value of $49.3 billion is secured on Ethereum layer two solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Ethereum layer two attempts to challenge Solana, one of the quickest blockchains<\/a>, Base's TPS has increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starknet is one of those competitors. According to StarkWare's CEO Eli Ben Sasson, the company intends to quadruple its transaction processing speeds (TPS) to more than 1,000 TPS and reduce its fees by fivefold in the next three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memecoin enthusiasm that has characterized this bull cycle has also contributed to the recent passage of the 1 billion milestone in the total number of Base transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the network experienced an 18-fold increase in funds stolen from phishing scams from January to March, as scammers were attracted to Base's prominence with memecoins<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, fault proofs were implemented in late October as part of its strategy to gradually decentralize the Ethereum layer 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Fault proofs are a critical element of transitioning from Stage 0, in which a rollup has “complete training wheels,” to Stage 1, which has “limited training wheels,” the network clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
