In an internal email, Disney's CEO Bob Chapek informed staff that Mike White had been promoted from internally to “a new role: Senior Vice President, Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences.” The job will be focused on Disney's efforts to create metaverse experiences\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>. Chapek explained how the company's nearly 100 years of technology innovation and the development of numerous entertainment properties may all come together in the metaverse in the email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is the so-called metaverse<\/a>,” Chapek wrote, “which I believe is the next great narrative frontier and the ideal location for us to pursue our strategy pillars of Storytelling Excellence, Innovation, and Audience Focus.” “This new canvas is being explored by teams across the organization, and I've been blown away by what I've seen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disney and the metaverse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chapek has already hinted at the company's goals in the field, most recently telling investors in November that the company is planning for “our own” metaverse. The corporation has also lately advertised job openings for NFT experts<\/a>, implying that metaverse integration is on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users interact with 3D avatars in the metaverse, which is a future, more immersive version of the internet. It might be developed with blockchain technology, with NFT assets representing ownership in avatars,<\/a> items, and even virtual locales, but it could take years before a fully working metaverse emerges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
