Baidu\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>, one of China's leading tech businesses, plans to airdrop over 20,000 free NFTs ahead of the debut of its marketplace in late March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These NFTs will be distributed in three phases by the Chinese computer giant, with classic Chinese cartoon characters serving as the assets' faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netizens will receive 8,888 “Talking Tom Cat” NFTs on March 10 and March 12, respectively. The popular talking virtual pet game for youngsters is called Talking Tom Cat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final round is set for March 16, which also happens to be Ali Fox's 16th birthday. 3,160 Ali NFTs will be given out for free in honor of the famous Chinese cartoon character's birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baidu had planned to launch its NFT<\/a> marketplace by the end of March to stay up with other Chinese digital giants such as Alibaba and Tencent. Alibaba and Tencent have been operating NFT markets since last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baidu's NFT marketplace will be powered by the Super Chain, the company's own blockchain technology platform. The blockchain's technical support will be used by the NFT marketplace to establish a range of digital collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in an opinion piece, a Chinese government-affiliated daily lambasted the NFT hype, claiming that it is “certainly not helpful for the healthy growth of NFT.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At this time, all excessive boasting and exaggeration of the NFT function, as well as profit-making actions that take advantage of the opportunity, will have a very negative impact on the growth of NFT,” the essay continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
