On Wednesday, video game developer Krafton announced a collaboration with Solana Labs\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a> that might add non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), a popular battle royale game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a news report, Krafton's objectives for the Solana Labs alliance include the “creation and operation of blockchain and NFT-based games<\/a> and services.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An undisclosed source stated that the partnership is a memorandum of understanding, which means the partnership may still end without legal penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PUBG battle royal game<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

PUBG is one of the most popular Steam games of all time, with tens of millions of active players; in early 2022, it was claimed that there were as many as 696,000 active people playing at the same time. The game is only second to Epic Games' Fortnite in terms of popularity in the battle-royale genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKrafton will continuously see ways to work closely with blockchain companies like Solana Labs<\/a> as we work toward establishing our Web 3 ecosystem,\u201d HyungChul Park, lead of Krafton\u2019s Web 3 division, said in the press release. \u201cSolana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this cooperation, Krafton will acquire the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and output of blockchain-based experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news comes as sentiments toward NFT<\/a> adoption in the conventional gaming industry remain sour, owing to previous incidents of pushback against the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
