In a recent tweet, Blizzard<\/a> Entertainment President Mike Ybarra confirmed that the company has no plans to adopt non-fungible tokens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several media outlets reported last week that the American video game company, known for hits like “Overwatch” and “World of Warcraft,” had asked gamers to complete a survey in order to gauge their opinions about emerging trends in the gaming industry, which include cryptocurrencies and NFTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally, this sparked debate among gamers, prompting Blizzard president Mike Ybarra to respond with a tweet that read, “No one is doing NFTs.” The messaging here is, to put it mildly, muddled, what with the poll and then the brief response to chatter about the poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixed Feelings About NFT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While NFTs grew in popularity in 2022, they also drew a slew of detractors who believe that digital collectibles, which can be easily replicated, lack practical utility. Some critics argue that they are simply a means of speculation that contributes to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, GSC Game World, the Ukrainian video game company behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R, was forced to abandon its NFT project due to strong backlash from the gaming community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to criticism, Discord<\/a>, a popular group-chatting platform for gamers, has also abandoned its plan to add support for Ethereum and NFTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonetheless, a number of well-known gaming companies have decided to capitalize on the trend. Ubisoft<\/a>, the French video game developer behind hit titles like “Assassin's Creed” and “Far Cry,” announced a plan to incorporate NFTs into its games last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
