Bill Murray's NFT<\/a> auction fund was hacked, the auction fund which on Thursday raised 119.2 ETH (or roughly $185,000) for charity was stolen by an unidentified hacker <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to evidence from Murray's team and on-chain data from Etherscan\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>, the hacker began to empty Murray's personal wallet on Thursday around 7:00 p.m. ET. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unidentified person also made an attempt to steal the actor's personal collection of non-fungible tokens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The major hack serves as a reminder that even well-known celebrities can become targets of cryptocurrency hackers and criminals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bill Murray, however, was fortunate to have a wallet security team that kept him safe from the worst of the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actor's high-priced JPEGs, including a Damien Hirst NFT, two CryptoPunks, a Pudgy Penguin, a Cool Cat, and several Flower Girls, were transferred to a pair of safehouse wallets by Murray's wallet security team from NFT consultant Project Venkman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the hacker attempted to take 800 NFTs from the Bill Murray collection that was kept in the wallet. Still, Project Venkman claimed to have stopped this attempt by relocating those NFTs to a safehouse as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They claimed to have executed a script to move the NFTs to safety instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With regards to safeguarding the money, they had less success. A spokesman confirmed that the 119.2 ETH Murray had donated the day before for a charity auction was taken by the hacker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Murray's team, the hacker transferred the stolen money to a wallet address connected to the cryptocurrency exchanges Unionchain.ai and Binance. The offender has not yet been found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To track out the attacker, Murray's team has reported the incident to the authorities and is collaborating with the crypto analytics company Chainalysis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
