Liz Truss, the secretary of state for foreign, Commonwealth, and development affairs won the contest to lead the Conservative Party over Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, and will take office as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truss will take over as the party leader after Boris Johnson, who has been the prime minister\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a> since January 2019, leaves office. Truss won the election with 57.4% of the vote from members compared to Sunak\u2019s 42.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2021, Truss has served as three different prime ministers' Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs in the UK, as well as minister for women and equalities since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
