Andreessen Horowitz<\/a>, a leading U.S. venture capital firm and cryptocurrency investor, announced on Sunday that it would open its first international office in London later this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of the crypto sector in the U.S. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London office will be part of the firm\u2019s a16z crypto fund, launched in 2018 and invested in companies such as Coinbase<\/a>, Facebook\u2019s Diem<\/a>, and OpenSea<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office will be led by Sriram Krishnan\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>, one of the firm\u2019s general partners, who recently advised Elon Musk on Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The firm chose London because of its supportive regulatory environment for blockchain technology and strong academic and entrepreneurial talent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The firm also said it had been in talks with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and other authorities for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunak stated that he was \u201cdetermined to unlock opportunities\u201d<\/em><\/strong> for blockchain technology and \u201cturn the U.K. into the world\u2019s Web3 centre\u201d.<\/em><\/strong> Web3 is a vision of a future internet built on blockchain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement<\/use><\/svg><\/span><\/a> comes when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been cracking down on the crypto industry, suing cryptocurrency exchanges Coinbase and Binance last week for allegedly breaching its rules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
