This announcement was issued on Tuesday, September 12, by the White House. The Chief of Staff of the White House, Jeff Zients, emphasized the urgency of leveraging AI's benefits, mitigating its risks, and swift action, stating, “We're collaborating with the private sector and utilizing every available resource to achieve this goal.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palantir, Stability, Salesforce, Scale AI, and Cohere have also joined the commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initial commitments, announced in July, intended to prevent the malicious use of AI's capabilities. In the same month, Google, OpenAI<\/a>, and Microsoft, an OpenAI partner, endorsed these commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The private commitments endorsed by the Biden administration are viewed as a provisional measure, as Congress has debated potential AI legislation but has yet to make progress regarding introduced legislation or substantial legal changes. Concurrently, the White House is developing an AI-related executive order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2023, a bipartisan coalition of U.S. legislators introduced a bill to establish an AI commission to address the sector's rapid expansion issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
