OpenAI, the developer of the widely used artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT, has suspended new registrations for ChatGPT Plus, the premium edition of the AI tool, in response to the significant increase in utilization following DevDay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Altman, the organization's chief executive officer, announced the news on Wednesday, November 15, via a post on X (previously Twitter). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Altman asserts that the suspension of new registrations is due to the platform surpassing its capacity, adversely affecting user experience quality. Atman reported that utilization of ChatGPT Plus has increased significantly since OpenAI's DevDay, where the company introduced new application programming interfaces\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a> (APIs) approximately one week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the CEO, while new registrations are currently on hold, users still have the option to opt in within the application to receive notifications when subscriptions reopen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A week ago, OpenAI services, including ChatGPT and its API, encountered a sequence of outages attributable to distributed denial-of-service assaults<\/a> and high demand. As a consequence, the organization has chosen to suspend new ChatGPT registrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the delay, developers constructing generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs) and utilizing the API should experience fewer complications (such as an inability to save GPT drafts). However, because they are exclusive to Plus subscribers, there may be a brief decline in the number of new users of GPTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
