The movie is available here.

“It's a very interesting idea that in some manner, Bitcoin provides an incorruptible language of value preferable to gold.”

For most of the episode, the 59-year-old author prompted his guests to share their perspectives on the value that Bitcoin brings to society, and in turn, he re-articulated their responses back to them in an attempt to gain a fundamental understanding of the cryptocurrency's most fundamental concepts.

Jordan Peterson Releases “Bitcoin: The Future of Money?” https://t.co/JFHzSh7fIO
— Dr Jordan B Peterson (@jordanbpeterson) August 13, 2021

“So [Bitcoin] is completely transparent. It’s completely distributed. There’s no centralized authority. It can’t be cracked. It can’t be stolen. It doesn’t inflate. It can’t be inflated. It isn’t subject to any form of overt administrative control,” he said.

Despite the fact that Peterson is not renowned as a crypto enthusiast, it is possible that he knows more about Bitcoin and blockchain technology than he admitted in the video. The psychologist began taking Bitcoin donations in 2018, following his decision to abandon Patreon due to concerns about free expression.

He has publicly emphasised the significance of blockchain technology on numerous times, and during an interview with Grant Blaisdell in January 2020, he indicated that he believes blockchain technology will have the following impact:

“There's a whole bunch of problems that this new system solves, but you can be bloody certain that there's a whole bunch of problems it's going to introduce.”

Aside from that, Peterson questioned the guests about what they perceived to be the drawbacks of Bitcoin, and he alluded to Elon Musk's environmental concerns about the long-term viability of mining processes that underpin the cryptocurrency.

Everyone in the room agreed that the energy required to maintain the Bitcoin network was worthwhile because of the transformative effects it has had on society in terms of decentralisation, with Gigi stating that “society, in general,” asks such questions about a variety of things, such as “are cars worth it?” Is it really worth it to have a smartphone? Is it really worth it to use the internet?”

Peterson then condensed the topic by arguing that, if the value propositions of Bitcoin were proven to be correct, the following would be the result:

“Whatever energy is expended in the production of Bitcoin and the maintenance of the system should be more than recouped by the increased efficiency of every system that uses Bitcoin as a transactional device.”

“And so there’ll be a net energy gain not a net energy loss if you calculated it across the entire system. And so it’s a mistake just to look at the cost of generating Bitcoin in the absence of considering the efficiencies that Bitcoin would produce, ” he said.

How Blockchain Technology Can Help Improve the Planet https://t.co/uTk8WQE82E via @HumanProgress
— Dr Jordan B Peterson (@jordanbpeterson) March 24, 2021

In this week’s episode of Jordan Peterson’s podcast titled “Bitcoin: The Future of Money?” he interviewed Bitcoiners such as John Vallis, Der Gigi, Richard James, and Robert Breedlove.
