Sh<\/a>apeShift, a non-custodial \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>cryptocurrency exchange, revealed Thursday that it has open-sourced the code for its future version two platform as part of its ongoing decentralization initiatives, allowing developers to participate in the iteration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ShapeShift's v2 code repository is now on Github, making it easy for developers to download it on their computers. \u201cThis is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to open source and engage the community in iterating on the first full, multichain, community-built interface,\u201d said Josh Foreman, ShapeShift DAO's engineering workstream lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also announced that open-source developers can join ShapeShift's Discord channel for biweekly community calls. Demonstrations and talks on various product engineering issues will be held during the meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of a vow to build an open, immutable organization, ShapeShift is dismantling its corporate structure <\/a>and entirely decentralizing its activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company revealed intentions to airdrop 340 million of its native FOX tokens as part of this operation. The airdrop is open to over 1 million users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous founder of Bitcoin (BTC), proposed a decentralized approach to transactions, decentralization has been a driving factor in the blockchain revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of Bitcoin's most fervent supporters<\/a>, nicknamed “Bitcoin maximalists” by the community, say that no other cryptocurrency comes close to BTC's level of decentralization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although a decentralized value proposition is not required for every crypto-based product to gain traction, decentralization is seen as a solution to many of the drawbacks of centralized systems.
