El Salvador's Bitcoin (BTC) adoption effort has hit a snag after citizens experienced difficulties downloading and using the government-sponsored Chivo wallet\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the wallet was pulled down shortly after it went up, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele later claimed that all of the concerns associated with the BTC wallet had been resolved as of the time of his announcement. He wrote on Twitter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have finished today\u2019s maintenance of Chivo wallet. Report any malfunction here, in the comments.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Chivo wallet was apparently launched on various software stores, including Google Play<\/a>, Huawei AppGallery, and the Apple App Store, shortly after El Salvador's adoption of the Bitcoin Law was finalized and implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A maintenance period has been declared to improve the user experience and fix the issues that have been reported by users, following a slew of reports of system unavailability and download issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will disconnect the system from 1am to 6am to make these adjustments. Our teams are ready. We hope tomorrow is much better.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For the time being, the Chivo wallet available in the Google Play store will only be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the service has been restored, Salvadoran officials have asked individuals to report any technical problems with the Chivo <\/a>system, which will be handled in order to “improve everyone's experience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After officially recognizing bitcoin <\/a>as legal cash in El Salvador, the president's legal counsel Javier Argueta issued an order requiring local companies to accept bitcoin as payment for goods and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Businesses retain the option to choose between bitcoin and the United States dollar as their final payment method for final settlements. Merchants can change their Bitcoin income into dollars automatically using the Chivo wallet, which they can access through their web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McDonald's, the American fast-food behemoth, has also begun to accept Bitcoin payments <\/a>in the country, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
