Tass reported Tuesday that UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan underscored his intention to elevate relations with Russia to a strategic partnership during a meeting in Dubai, citing the WAM news agency.

The news outlet reported that Sheikh Mohamed's discussions with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu focused on “further steps to strengthen cooperation and further joint work,” particularly in light of the UAE president's official visit to Russia for the BRICS summit<\/a> in Kazan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two leaders also discussed various international and regional issues, such as the Ukrainian crisis, which suggests their relationship is strengthening in light of their shared geopolitical interests. Shoigu's visit to Abu Dhabi on October 28 is scheduled in conjunction with Russia's ongoing dialogue initiatives, which include potential pathways to peace in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdulrahman Bin Suleiman Al-Ahmed, the Saudi Ambassador to Moscow, has indicated that Saudi Arabia is interested in mediating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al-Ahmed was quoted as stating, “Saudi Arabia is prepared to assist in mediation efforts to involve all parties involved,” underscoring that the Kingdom favors initiatives to alleviate the Ukraine conflict.
