Vietnam Deploys NDAChain, a National Blockchain for Identity and Records

Vietnam has launched a nationwide blockchain platform called NDAChain, designed to modernize digital identity verification, secure recordkeeping, and smart contract execution across both public and private sectors. The move marks a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation efforts and its push toward data sovereignty.

The platform, developed and operated by the National Data Association (NDA), is built on a layer-1 permissioned blockchain infrastructure using a Proof-of-Authority consensus model. It currently operates with 49 validator nodes that include both government agencies and private sector participants. This structure allows for a secure and scalable system while maintaining centralized oversight.

NDAChain has been engineered for high performance, with the capacity to process between 1,200 and 3,600 transactions per second. The platform also integrates advanced privacy features, including zero-knowledge proofs, to ensure user data is verifiable without being exposed, striking a balance between transparency and confidentiality.

A major highlight of this rollout is the integration of NDA DID, a decentralized identity framework that allows individuals and organizations to verify their identities digitally in a secure and privacy-preserving manner. Accompanying this is NDAKey, a mobile application that enables real-time identity verification, helping to reduce digital fraud and impersonation.

The government envisions NDAChain as the backbone for a broad range of applications. These include digital identity management, e-government services, healthcare records, educational certifications, and product traceability. One notable application, NDATrace, enables businesses to assign globally recognized digital identifiers to their products, enhancing transparency and trust in both local and international markets.

Unlike public blockchains that are entirely decentralized, NDAChain operates as a hybrid model combining blockchain’s tamper-proof advantages with state oversight. This hybrid approach ensures compliance with national laws while promoting innovation and efficiency across sectors.

The platform also meets international standards for digital identity and data protection, making it compatible with a wide range of existing systems. It is expected to become a key component of Vietnam’s National Data Center by the end of the year, with plans for future integration into local governments, schools, healthcare systems, and public services.

Vietnam’s deployment of NDAChain reflects its broader strategy to establish a trusted digital infrastructure that supports secure data exchange, reliable identity verification, and improved citizen services. With digital adoption accelerating, the platform is positioned to play a crucial role in transforming the country’s administrative and technological landscape.

As rollout continues, efforts will focus on expanding the validator network, educating the public on digital identity use, and developing more applications on top of the platform. Vietnam’s blockchain initiative demonstrates a forward-looking approach to digital governance where security, privacy, and efficiency work together to build a more connected and transparent society.
