Worldcoin cryptocurrency and digital identity initiatives edging closer to a mainnet launch and calls for global developers to begin building on World Chain.
The Worldcoin Foundation announced the launch of the World Chain developer preview on July 9. This utility allows global developers to begin building on the World Chain before its mainnet launch.
Remco Bloemen, the director of protocol at the Worldcoin Foundation, informed Cointelegraph that developers could deploy infrastructure on a “gated mainnet” with the World Chain developer preview, as the project is forgoing a testnet.
Testing on the OP Stack
Bloemen stated that developers have already conducted tests on the World Chain on the OP Stack, an open-source development infrastructure maintained by the Optimism Collective and serves as a public resource for the Ethereum and Optimism ecosystems.
Bloemen stated, “OP Stack has undergone abundant testing; we are confident in its functionality.” He further states that developers interested in obtaining developer preview access may submit an application on the official website of Worldcoin’s developer Tools for Humanity.
Before the network’s inauguration in July 2022, the Worldcoin Foundation initiated its support of Optimism and the Superchain. Worldcoin user transactions have increased to approximately 50% of OP mainnet’s activity in less than a year, rendering it the largest application on the network.
World Chain is a blockchain expected to be fully launched in 2024. It is designed to facilitate genuine human transactions and is integrated with Worldcoin’s identity protocol, World ID.
The project aims to establish a global economy accessible to the maximum number of individuals, irrespective of their economic status or country of origin, by encouraging using the universal World ID as a worldwide digital passport.
Three years of development culminated in the official launch of the Worldcoin initiative in July 2023. Worldcoin’s mission is to provide tools that enable the differentiation of humans from AI by scanning an individual’s iris, which is an intelligent retrieval information system.
Worldcoin generates a World ID following the scan, which enables users to verify their identity as genuine human beings online.
World Chain to Serve 10 million individuals in 160 countries
“Starting with Tools for Humanity’s World App, over 10 million individuals in 160 countries will be able to explore and utilize onchain applications through compatible wallets when the World Chain mainnet launches,” Bloemen stated.
The forthcoming World Chain mainnet is intended to provide diverse advantages, such as scalable and cost-effective transactions, compatibility, and interoperability.
“As a layer 2 to Ethereum and Superchain member of the Ethereum Virtual Machine chain, it is effortless to migrate existing projects and create new ones using all the current tooling,” claimed Bloemen.
He also stated that the World Chain will prioritize real-world utility by offering an ecosystem of decentralized financial and identity applications relevant to daily life.
“This will be built around Worldcoin, stablecoins, payments, rewards, ramps, lending, swapping, and more, and will be uniquely enabled by World ID’s Sybil resistance,” the executive stated.
In addition, it is anticipated that the World Chain will implement a Human Priority System. “As a permissionless network, World Chain will allow all users to submit transactions; however, transactions generated by verified humans will be prioritized for expedited confirmation times,” Bloemen explained.
