The National Women’s Soccer League, or NWSL, has formed an agreement with cryptocurrency trading platform Voyager Digital, the partnership will see to providing players with crypto education and financial support.
Voyager announced on Tuesday that as part of a multi-year partnership, it would become the league’s first cryptocurrency brokerage partner.
A “substantial portion” of the investment, according to the trading site, will be used to fund the crypto accounts of rostered players. The NWSL is scheduled to have 12 teams starting in 2022, therefore the Voyager partnership might benefit up to 312 players.
“Voyager’s involvement in the league is particularly innovative since we’ve built the relationship to include direct cash resources for each of our players, as well as education on the revolutionary developments taking place in digital assets,” said NWSL interim CEO Marla Messing.
As part of the agreement with Voyager, one player from each of the NWSL’s teams will serve as an ambassador, attending educational events and producing cryptocurrency-related content.
The exchange stated that it would provide “important lessons and tools” to assist players in developing long-term financial growth prospects after their sporting careers ended.
Voyager Digital and harnessing the opportunities in the crypto space
As the crypto space grows and appears to become more profitable as a sponsor, many crypto companies and platforms have formed agreements with sports groups all around the world.
Following an October arrangement, Voyager is already the crypto brokerage and international partner for the Dallas Mavericks basketball franchise. In June, the cryptocurrency derivatives exchange FTX announced that it has become the official sponsor of Major League Baseball.
Voyager Digital, which was founded in 2018, now offers more than 60 digital assets for trade on its mobile app, as well as services like yield farming.
The platform reported in October that it had obtained a $75 million investment from Alameda Research, a crypto quantitative trading firm and liquidity provider.
