India’s Ongoing Investigation and Apple Rumors
Rumors began to propagate that Apple might remove Telegram from its App Store, particularly in India, where the platform has a significant user base, following Pavel Durov’s arrest. Nevertheless, Apple has refuted these speculations, stating that it has no intention of removing Telegram from the App Store. The speculation appears to be a resurgence of previous falsehoods that have already been refuted.
As a result, the Indian government is presently investigating the platform for its purported involvement in criminal activities, such as gambling and extortion. A government official indicated that Telegram may be subject to a prohibition in the country based on the results of this investigation. This further complicates the platform’s ongoing legal and regulatory disputes.
Furthermore, Pavel Durov, Telegram founder, is accused of employing unauthorized cryptography tools. According to the investigation, Durov is accused of providing cryptographic services without the requisite certification, as mandated by French law. This encompasses the provision and importation of cryptology instruments that were not properly declared to the appropriate authorities.
Furthermore, the investigation alleges that the Telegram platform was employed to launder proceeds from criminal activities, and Durov is currently facing money laundering charges. Nevertheless, Pavel Durov’s release has been supported by prominent leaders such as TRON founder Justin Sun and Elon Musk, despite these accusations, according to a CoinGape report.
