Several European football stars, including Ronaldinho and Vinicius, may face legal action for promoting the pyramid scheme Omegapro, which raised over $3 billion.
A group of European football stars could be sued for promoting Omegapro, a pyramid scheme that got more than $3 billion from more than 3 million buyers. Hundreds of users who were affected were getting ready to sue these people, saying they trusted the company because it promised returns of over 300% because these players backed it.
Ronaldinho, Vinicius, Others to Be Sued for Promoting Billionaire Pyramid Scheme Omegapro
A group of football stars are about to be sued by people who lost money in a rich pyramid scheme. Sources in Spain say that footballers and past football stars can be held responsible for promoting a scam platform if they promote Omegapro, a pyramid scheme that has made over $3.2 billion since 2020.
Stars like Figo, Vinicius, Ronaldinho, Casillas, Puyol, and more are in this group. Most of them say they have nothing to do with Omegapro and say they were just in advertising games for the company because they know people in the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
When Omegapro began doing business in 2020, it promoted investments with 300% returns in 14 months. Later, the business changed these terms and said it would offer the same returns for 16 months. The time frame grew to 26 months in 2022. In November of that year, the platform was said to have been hacked, which stopped payouts and left users without their money.
A lot of Omegapro’s customers said they bought from the company because these players backed it. According to a woman named Dolores:
How could it be a scam? The footballers were involved and the company logo was projected onto that skyscraper in Dubai!
Robert Velghe and Andreas Szakacs, two co-founders of Omegapro, are being held by Turkish police. But two more co-founders are still missing.
Lars Olofsson, the lawyer leading the group case against these stars, made it clear that he would take action against anyone involved in promotional events. “Every football player who was seen at Omegapro events will be sued in London,” he said.
Similar steps have been taken against celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Floyd Mayweather for promoting cryptocurrency platforms. However, experts say that these demands might not work in Spain.
