Alibaba created TaoLive City with the combined efforts of Taobao and Diantao, which are live-streaming e-commerce apps.
Chinese news outlet DSB reported on December 26 that Taobao, an e-commerce network controlled by Alibaba, is carrying out final tests prior to releasing its first metaverse livestreaming product.
The initiative is anticipated to launch online during the forthcoming New Year’s shopping extravaganza if all goes well. Taobao has frequently released products relating to the metaverse since the start of the year.
Taobao and Diantao, another one of Alibaba’s livestreaming e-commerce apps, collaborated to create TaoLive City during the Double 11 Shopping Festival last month.
There are streets of commerce and advertisement screens in this virtual world. With a virtual avatar, users may immediately access this brand-new virtual environment where they can shop, enter contests, and connect with other users.
TaoLive City, which features eight settings including a beautiful Ferris wheel and commercial streets, has a cyberpunk aesthetic. There are many different livestreaming rooms, each with its own peculiarities.
Over ten Taobao livestreamers and brands like Tissot have joined the site.In addition to TaoLive City, Alifish, an online platform for copyright trading services introduced by Alibaba Pictures, collaborated with Alibaba’s DAMO Academy XR Lab during the Double 11 Shopping Festival this year to launch a virtual IP scenario powered by VR technology through Taobao’s “IP New Power” and create an immersive virtual block.
Baidu AI Cloud pushes its own solutions in the apparel, home, digital, and other industries in addition to Alibaba. Similar solutions are being promoted by NetEase’s Metaverse Department, and it is anticipated that NetEase Yaotai, a metaverse software comparable to Baidu’s XiRang, would be released soon.
Although they have not yet developed any products, other well-known Chinese enterprises including Tencent, JD.com, Meituan, Pinduoduo, and Kuaishou are actively promoting the related business. To achieve a breakthrough, ByteDance’s Douyin is investing all of its strength in PICO VR headsets.
