Starting in October, the residents of Argentina’s Capital city, Buenos Aires, can access their identity documents through a digital wallet with QuarkID and zkSync. In addition, they have digital access to proof of income and academic verification.
Soon, the city also intends to integrate health data and payment administration. Significantly, the broader roadmap seeks to implement this blockchain-based solution nationwide by 2023.
Guillermo Villanueva, the chief executive officer of Extrimian, stated that this is a monumental move toward a more secure and efficient future for government services in Latin America.
The data contained within the wallets will be autonomous, allowing citizens to control the delivery of their credentials when interacting with the government, businesses, and other citizens.
According to Diego Fernandez, Buenos Aires’ secretary of innovation, this development solidifies Buenos Aires’ position as Latin America’s leader in this field.
To make their digital identity framework a public benefit is the objective. He added that Buenos Aires serves as a model for other Latin American nations by demonstrating the advantages blockchain technology can offer its citizens.
QuarkID and zkSync
QuarkID, a digital identity protocol developed by Web3 company Extrimian, supports this project’s infrastructure. zkSync Era, an Ethereum scaling protocol employing zero-knowledge rollups (ZK-rollups), reinforces the QuarkID wallets.
This technology enables one entity to verify the integrity of a statement to another without disclosing the statement’s specifics.
