Captain Tsubasa launches its NFT soccer game on the Oasys Web3 gaming blockchain.
A platform dedicated to Web3 gaming, the Oasys blockchain, is where the nonfungible token (NFT) soccer game based on the Japanese manga and anime series Captain Tsubasa was officially released.
The company announced on May 20 that Captain Tsubasa, a popular anime and manga from the 1980s written and illustrated by the Japanese author Yichi Takahashi, will be adapted into an NFT soccer game and made available on Oaysis’ Web3 gaming blockchain.
Established by Web3 development platforms Blocksmith and Mint Town, the Web3 game debuted in 2022 and was formally introduced on January 12, 2023. On June 4, 2023, the initiative also issued its governance token.
Players are able to amass NFTs depicting characters from the original animated series. It enables users to create teams, progress through various game modes, and add personalities to their characters.
In the Rival mode, players may revisit the original plot and compete with other online players in player-versus-player (PvP) competition. Furthermore, the game incorporates an Arena mode, where participants engage in 11-on-11 soccer matches.
Hiroshi Kunimitsu, CEO of Mint Town, asserts that the animated story’s integration with the Oasys blockchain provides enthusiasts with “a new way” to engage with it. According to Kunimitsu, the release further illustrates the potential of blockchain technology to “improve interactive entertainment and gaming.”
An anime adaptation of the manga series, which debuted in the Weekly Shonen Jump in 1981, followed in 1983.
Numerous films and television adaptations followed, the most recent of which debuted in 2018. As of 2023, 90 million copies of the manga had been sold internationally, making it one of the best-selling series of all time.
In observance of the game’s debut on Oasys, Genesis NFTs will be enhanced with additional functionalities, such as an increase in the energy points of participants.
In the interim, GameFi studios resume operations as cryptocurrency prices begin to recover. Immutable, a Web3 gaming studio, released the video game Guild of Guardians on Google Play and the Apple App Store on May 15.
Pixels, a Web3 game, surpassed one million daily active participants and generated token revenue of $4.4 million on May 13. On February 22, following its transition to the Ronin blockchain, the game was valued at $2.7 billion.
