Casio, the Japanese electronics giant, is entering the NFT space with a collaboration with Polygon, the Ethereum scaling solution. The project will feature Casio’s iconic G-SHOCK watches as NFTs on Polygon’s blockchain protocols.
The project will start with a community-driven design contest for the G-SHOCK creator pass, an NFT-based access pass to a dedicated Discord channel.
How to Claim the G-SHOCK Creator Pass
The G-SHOCK creator pass is an NFT that grants access to a special Discord channel where users can interact with other G-SHOCK fans and participate in the project.
The pass will also serve as a proof of ownership and a ticket to future events and benefits. 15,000 G-SHOCK creator passes are available, and users can claim them from September 23rd to September 29th.
The first phase of distribution, from September 23rd to September 26th, is exclusive to Casio customers who have registered for a CASIO ID on the company’s membership site.
The second phase, from September 26th to September 29th, is open to the public.
To claim the pass, users must have a MetaMask wallet and some MATIC tokens, the native currency of Polygon. Users can then visit the project’s website and follow the instructions to mint their pass.
Join the G-SHOCK Design Contest
Casio is taking a community-oriented approach to this initiative. During the initial community engagement phase, users are invited to submit design ideas for the G-SHOCK creator pass and vote for their favorite ones.
The winning design will become a variant of the NFT pass, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the project.
The design contest will run from September 23rd to October 3rd. Users can submit their designs on the project’s website, where they can also see other submissions and vote for them.
The design should be inspired by Casio’s G-SHOCK watch, known for its shock-resistant and durable features.
The winning design will be announced on October 4th, and the users who submitted or voted for it will receive a special edition of the G-SHOCK creator pass as a reward.
Why Polygon?
Casio’s choice of Polygon as its partner for launching its Web3 venture is based on several compelling reasons.
Polygon’s blockchain solution offers lightning-fast transactions, streamlining the minting process and managing NFTs, making it convenient for users.
Moreover, Polygon is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, offering a carbon-neutral approach to blockchain operations.
Takahashi Oh, Senior General Manager of Timepieces at Casio, explained the choice of Polygon, stating,
“At its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was built to be accessible, innovative, and inclusive, meaning that user experience must be frictionless and simple. This is why Polygon was the most natural and logical choice for us.”
The overarching goal of this collaboration is to encourage both the company and its users to work together and further develop the G-SHOCK brand, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.
Casio’s NFT collection will be available to residents of several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Japan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
This broad geographical reach also underscores the brand’s commitment to global accessibility and inclusivity.
This collaboration aims to tap into the growing trend of user participation in the NFT space.
Even Starbucks, the renowned coffee chain, embraced the NFT trend by introducing its own NFT collection on the Polygon network in April of this year.
