On-chain investigator ZachXBT is investigating a $4.3 million crypto heist from June 2024, linked to armed robbery by Faris Ali, also known as Zay or Tommy, in the UK.
ZachXBT, an on-chain investigator, has most recently investigated a crypto theft that occurred in June 2024 and involved $4.3 million.
Faris Ali, who operates under the pseudonyms “Zay” or “Tommy,” is believed to have perpetrated an armed robbery in the United Kingdom to rob a victim as a result of a crypto data compromise. Other individuals disguised as delivery men were involved in the organization of the attack.
Faris Ali Orchestrates a Crypto Heist
Specifically, on June 18, 2024, the victim posted on the social media platform X, claiming that he was compelled to transmit $4.3 million worth of cryptocurrency to two received addresses at gunpoint.
The post also emphasized that most of the stolen funds had not been handled at the time of writing. The victim submitted the report, which was subsequently identified by ZachXBT, who began investigating the situation.
ZachXBT was able to retrieve the chat records from an exchange of dialogue between Faris Ali, the individual accused of robbing, and an associate that occurred just a few hours before the robbery.
Two of them stated that they would don the gowns of delivery men as they approached the victim’s residence. When one of them commented, “We are going now,” they claimed to have accomplished this by sharing photographs of the victim’s building, the front entrance, and the final approach. The method by which this robbery was carried out demonstrates the deliberate nature of the activity and the existence of distinct plans.
ZachXBT Discovers Key Evidence
Furthermore, Faris Ali paradoxically forgot his identity when he posted a photo of his bond document on Telegram, denying involvement in any criminal activity, although evidence contradicted his story.
After the robbery, the ENS domain farisali.eth was established; an on-chain message was transmitted, which fortified the connection between Ali and the robbery.
