The Mainnet launch of Ethereum Dencun Upgrade is scheduled for March 13, ushering in a new era for the blockchain.
The crucial developers comprising the Ethereum ecosystem have ultimately reached a consensus regarding the mainnet launch date of the Dencun upgrade.
Mainnet Upgrade Scheduling For Dencun Confirmed
Tim Beiko of the Ethereum Foundation reports that the activation of the Dencun upgrade is slated to occur at slot number 8626176 on March 13, 2024. Moreover, Beiko declared on X that blob transactions and transient storage will be implemented via this feature.
The primary purpose of these structures is to decrease rollup expenses on the Ethereum mainnet. This is accomplished by off-chain compressing transaction data, reducing the storage and processing resources requirement. A few hours after the Dencun upgrade concluded its third testnet deployment on the Holesky testnet, the news broke.
Upon completion, the Dencun enhancement will augment the functionalities of the Ethereum network. More precisely, it is anticipated that the network could process between 30,000 and 100,000 transactions per second (TPS).
The Ethereum network can currently only support 13 to 60 TPS. Furthermore, it is anticipated to reduce petroleum prices, a significant challenge the foundation has confronted since its inception.
It is highly anticipated that the Dencun enhancement will significantly enhance the scalability of the Ethereum blockchain network.
Upgrade Nearer than Before
Core developers in the Ethereum ecosystem deployed the Dencun upgrade on the Goerli test network two weeks into this year. This upgrade introduced EIP-4844, a groundbreaking transaction mechanism called “Proto-DankSharding.”
This feature is intended to accelerate transaction fee reductions on Layer-2s substantially. Proto-dankSharding endeavors to fundamentally transform the transactional environment of Ethereum, specifically by mitigating the expenses associated with decentralized application (dApp) transactions.
Christine Kim, a researcher at Galaxy, recently disclosed two pivotal dates of the utmost importance to participants in the Ethereum ecosystem. Initially, she mentioned that the Sepolia testnet’s Ethereum Dencun upgrade was scheduled to go live on January 30 and that this occurred precisely on that date.
Subsequently, she declared that the identical enhancement would occur on the Holesky testnet on February 7; this testnet was the final one to undergo the Dencun simulation.
With the new date release and the successful implementation of testnets, the Dencun upgrade, which is expected to herald an unprecedented era on Ethereum, is now more accessible than ever before.
