Today, Google Cloud and Coinbase announced a new, long-term partnership to better serve the growing Web3 ecosystem and its developers.
Coinbase will use Google Cloud as a strategic cloud provider to build a new exchange and data services as part of the partnership. Coinbase will use Google Cloud’s powerful computing platform to process blockchain data at scale. It will also use Google’s premium fiber-optic network to expand the reach of its cryptocurrency services around the world. Coinbase will also build its global data platform on Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure and use its leading data and analytics technologies to give its customers machine learning-driven crypto insights.
As part of the partnership, Google Cloud will be able to let some customers, starting with those in the Web3 ecosystem, pay for its cloud services with certain cryptocurrencies. The new payments experience is powered by Coinbase Commerce, which lets merchants around the world accept cryptocurrency payments in a decentralized way. This will help Google Cloud’s customers and partners by giving them more ways to pay for Google Cloud services.
Through this partnership, Web3 developers will also be able to use Coinbase Cloud Nodes to access Google’s BigQuery crypto public datasets on leading blockchains. With this integration, developers will be able to run Web3-based systems quickly and reliably without having to build expensive and complicated infrastructure.
“We are excited that Google Cloud has chosen Coinbase to help bring Web3 to a new set of users and give developers powerful solutions,” said Brian Armstrong, Co-founder, and CEO of Coinbase. “Coinbase has been building industry-leading products on top of blockchain technology for more than a decade. The company has more than 100 million verified users and 14,500 institutional clients. We could not have asked for a better partner to help us build a trusted bridge into the Web3 ecosystem, which is what we want to do.”
“This partnership with Coinbase helps developers get one step closer to our goal of making building in Web3 faster and easier,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud. “We’re happy that Coinbase has chosen Google Cloud as its strategic cloud partner, and we’re ready to serve the growing global Web3 customer and partner ecosystem. Our main goal is to make it easy for all of our customers to use our scalability, reliability, security, and data services, so they can focus on coming up with new ideas in the Web3 space.”
Google will also use Coinbase Prime for institutional cryptocurrency services like safe storage and reporting.
